Anyhow, for internal DVD drives, I've purchased replacement units from Other World Computing that I've been happy with in the past: For external drives, I purchased a LaCie d2 DVD burner on: It was an excellent drive - it was fast, never screwed up burns, and was compatible with all Apple software.

In March 2008 the drive suddenly stopped recognizing all media (blank or not). Unfortunately, the warranty for these units back then was for only one year. Luckily, LaCie support was nice enough to give me a decent discount on a new replacement drive though ($60 off).

It should replace my veeeery old 1995 LaCie d2 P7502S (Panasonic) /four speed/ burner with special firmware for music production. That oldie is the most precise burning drive I ever have had - and it's still funtioning like new after more than 40.000 burnings, though it's rather seldon I use it now.
