Hal Start-up Screens For Mac

IMac:: Pixelated Screen Display At Startup Oct 30, 2010 I own an early 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard. A few months ago, it started getting a little buggy and running slow, you know, things you would expect from a computer that's now 2 years old. But then it started freezing and giving me 'kernel panics'. Of course, the first thing I did was install VirusBarrier and remove any and all viruses it could find, and I repaired the disk and disk permissions and ran all the diagnostic tests from the install DVD.

Then I left it unplugged for a day, upgraded the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB and did everything a second time. After all that, everything seemed to work just fine. Now it seems to be starting all over again! This time the virus scan only picked up a few Windows viruses on an old external hard drive and repairing the disk, disk permissions, and running diagnostics turned up nothing. I've done everything I know to do, short of taking the thing back to Apple! Right now, the main issue is this bug at startup that's really just freaking me out. Linked is a video of what happens.

The apps that run at startup are BumpTop, HughesNet Status Meter (as of last month), and Brother Printer Utility. URL Similar Messages:.

ADVERTISEMENT Jun 19, 2010 I have an iMac G4 running 10.4.11. When I turned it on today, it was all pixilated, little white squares in between the colored ones. I can hardly make out what is on the screen so I can?t really choose anything using the mouse.

Everything else seems normal except for the the screen. Apr 13, 2012 The display on My IMac G5 running 10.5.8 is pink and the images are ghostlike! My screen saver is neon green! Is my Mac dying? It has done this before and after I was doing my work for a few hours, it come back to normal and shocked my eyes! This time it has been going on for about 4 days now!

Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8) Dec 4, 2008 This is the image I get on my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo OSX10.5.4. I have repaired permisions and removed all login items.

Once I move the cursor or open up a window the screen clears behind the cursor or window etc. It freezes up at least once or twice a day. I started up again and attached another screen, the image was normal on both screens. But alone the iMac still starts up with the pixelated screen. Jan 21, 2009 Whenever I play HD movies on my iMac in full screen with QuickTime, you can always see the pixels, some are big some small, like boxes. Is there any fix to this? Also this is a Aluminum mid level 20 inch iMac Oct 14, 2010 Got the iMac 27' Late 2009 (bought it when it came out).

Its always had the 'pixelated' issue (see attachment) just before the login screen appears but I've never bothered too much as its not been a problem, until recently where I am getting a lot of 'Kernel Panics' (screen wipes down and locks done entirely, have to restart to get the system up and running again). I am starting to think that the screen issue is finally starting to shows its true colours. Yes, I've done the PRAM resets, disk repairs, up-to-date with all the software etc. Jan 14, 2010 I have a late 2006 24' IMac which has a myriad of issues.

The most concerning to me at this point is the occasional appearance of a 1-2 pixel wide horizontal line which runs from 2' across to sometimes as much as 12' across the screen. It happens most often on the desktop and in firefox. It disappears as mysteriously as it appears. Could the graphics card be going bad? Any ideas on what might be happening and how I might be able to solve this. Sep 28, 2010 I have a Mac Pro (Early 2008) running on 10.5.8 OSX with apple 20' display and 16G RAM. Initially started with my MACPRO not waking up from sleep and has to force the shut down with power button.

Finally realised it was due to my Epson scanner connected via USB. The main issues now is with the display, black screen on startup. I can still control the volume and disk eject/close, just no display.

Force shut down with power button numerous time but futile. Finally solved it with SMC reset. It becomes an on and off issues. And continuously I solved it with SMC reset.

Sometimes needed 2 or 3 resets to get it to work, and finally for the past few days. SMC reset can't solve it either.

No display on startup, and same thing I can control the volume and disk eject/close. Have tried my monitor on other mac and it worked fine. Now this is strange. If I let the mac cool off totally, after a SMC reset.

The display will comes up fine. Apr 18, 2009 new Dell S2209W monitor to hook up to the Macbook as an external display and so far have been pretty disappointed.

Sadly, it's not the monitor I'm disappointed in. First of all, a few comparison shots between the Macbook connected to S2009W and a PC connected to the S2009W:Macbook connected to Dell S2209W:PC Laptop connected to Dell S2209WSo what would you even call that effect?

The colors in the shadows looked very dithered or pixelated on the Macbook, yet on the PC laptop the image looks great. Both laptops (the Macbook and PC) are running at the same, native resolution of 1920 x 1080. The wallpapers are scaled the same way on both. Dec 3, 2008 This is the image I get on my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo OSX10.5.4. I have repaired permisions and removed all login items. Once I move the cursor or open up a window the screen clears behind the cursor or window etc.Any suggestions?

It freezes up at least once or twice a day. Apr 25, 2012 My work and Home MAC PRO are both doing the same stuff. The screen goes black and when I have an opened window it repeates itself when I drag it throughout the screen? Info: Map Pro Jul 8, 2008 I have a G4 Powerbook 1.67 that I don't take anywhere. It just sits on an iCurve as a home computer. Never been dropped, damaged, looks as good as new. That said, the screen sometimes gives me these red moving pixels which distorts the screen image a bit (pic attached).

And lately the screen has been going out at times with lines across the screen, then intermittent blackouts. Feb 18, 2010 Sometime this morning the screen on my mac became very distorted (almost pixelated.) I restarted while holding the shift key and it was resolved for about five minutes, then started up again. A friend suggested it could be a blown video card? I've attached a photo. May 3, 2012 I have a macbook Pro 13', bought in 2010. Recently my screen has been going pixelated at random times, it normally goes away fairly quick but is happening more and more.

I'm wondering if it is the Video Card which needs to be replaced? Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3) Jun 18, 2010 As can be seen from the screenshot below, each morning when I put the iMac on. They appear right before the login screen for approx 4-5 seconds. Is this something to worry about? Done a PRAM reset Sep 3, 2010 I have been having problems with my Macbook pro(5 months old) screen lately. The screen goes all pixelated and messed up, please see pictures. I don't know what is wrong and surely this can't be lag as my laptop is a pretty good model and from the most recent update. It does this randomly ever now and again but it is very concerning to me.

Should i consider asking for a new mac/refund. Dec 26, 2010 I own a Mac Pro (2x2.8ghz Quad Core Xeon, 6gb DDR2 Ram, Nvidia 8800GT, running in 64-bit mode), and a 30' cinema display. I am running OS 10.6.5 at the moment as well. What happens (and its been happening all day, rarely happened in the past), is that my entire screen freezes up for no real reason, and becomes completely pixelated and nothing but my cursor moves. The pixelation even makes it through the force shut down and into the grey apple startup screen, the logo is pixelated there as well.

For some reason, I can't seem to reset the PRAM (no second startup chime?), and I can't seem to enter safe-mode either (shift at startup?) Right now, the problem isn't happening, but at this rate I expect it to start pixelating very, very soon. Does anyone have any tips? I have AppleCare, but I need to fix this asap. I'm a photographer and a very big project depends on it (needs to be submitted by tomorrow morning). Mar 4, 2008 I've had two crashes (really weird ones) since I got my mac pro 3 weeks ago. Is that too many to have and should I be worried about this? Description: The screen distorts - I see a version of the app I had open but it's all distorted and pixelated.

There are medium to small squares everywhere that imbue things w/ different colors. I can move a version of the pointer around (almost like a pointer attached to a box) but I can't click on anything. Nothing responds. Mar 26, 2012 my late 2006 MacBook Pro's screen has turned all pixelated. Not sure if there's a way to fix this or if I should just take it in to the Genius Bar. Jun 19, 2012 I was using my computer and it was just fine.

I closed it carefully (as always) and left for a few minutes. When I came back and opened it up, the screen was completely pixelated. I turned it on and off and read several forums and tried cleaning the drives and nothing is working at all. As I've been working on it parts of the pixelation of bright colors have begun flashing a little bit. Not a lot but a little.

Black doesn't seem affected by the pixelation but you can see lines in the white areas. Also when images are fading in and out, they don't become pixelated until they are at their brightest. When they are fading in and out they appear fine. The graphics card in my computer is a Nividia GeForce GT 330M. SO I'm guessing from this that the graphics card is damaged or whatever. I can't afford to have apple repair it for $400 and the nearest apple store to me is two hours away. Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Nividia GeForce GT 330M GraphicCard Dec 9, 2014 Since updating to Yosemite I get a pixelated screen on my IMAC.

May 17, 2009 My friends alu intel imac is having a problem. When he power on the machine the computer gets stuck on a blue screen.

Sep 17, 2008 I'm on Mac Pro os x 10.5.4 and having a problem with my computer waking up from sleep or as it is booting up. As it wakes up from sleep, the screen becomes blank or shows weird, pixelated bars all over the screen. When I try to move the mouse or press something on keypad, the computer freezes after and I would have to force shutting it down by pressing the power. It doesn't always happen, but quite often these days.

Also, when it's booting up, it sometimes will freeze with a blank screen in the middle and won't show the desktop. Everything worked fine until a few days ago, and i'm wondering what's suddenly causing this problem. Jun 12, 2010 I'm having a problem on my mbp screen, although it happened only once just an hour ago. The screen goes flickering magenta and white and some pixelated image. I needed to force shutdown using the power button because it seems to stalled. After restarting, it went to normal.

I dunno if it has anything to do with the gfxstatus utility that I've installed the night before. I know it might be the nvidia graphic card itself but I just don't have a clue right now.

My MBP is just 8 days old and my 1 to 1 exchange has expired since it covers the 1st 7 days only. My MBP spec: MacBook Pro 17' AG, i5 2.53 Ghz, 4gb RAM, 500gb Hitachi HD, 512mb nVidia GT330M video card, Mac OSX 10.6.3, with everything updated. Tthe attached pic is not showing the exact image since the screen was flickering etc and I'm just using a camera photo. I just noticed while I'm just surfing this forum + facebook, my temperature is at 67-70 degree celcius, which is high (normal around 38-45).

I look at Activity Monitor and found that Kernel Task is using up to 80% of CPU. I have a feeling that this is not normal, and it had not happened before.

Apr 27, 2012 My MBPro, OSX 10.4.11 boots up to frozen blue screen with little pixelated squares. Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.4.11) Apr 5, 2007 My brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing? Mar 19, 2012 I have been limping along for quite some time with a recurring problem with my PPC Flat Panel iMac G4.Sometimes when starting up I would get a black screen.

Power Mac G5:: On Start Up Screen Is Black Dec 13, 2007 When I start my computer up in the morning everything else starts normally. First the light comes on on the front of the computer and on the bottom of the monitor, then the start up tone rings and the computer is fully running. But my monitor is black and I do not get the apple picture or nothing on the screen.

I thought my monitor was going out, but we have another work station the same and I switched the monitors (same 27' cinema screen as mine). I can actually use the other computer and network into my computer and fully use everything on my computer. But my monitor is black (no display)! I have contacted MAC and have reset the PMU button many times and sometimes this works, but most of the time it does not. I just keep restarting the computer and finally it will start up normally with the display and everything. Information: Dual 2ghz PowerPc g5 Mac OS X (10.4.11) 27' Cinema Screen Similar Messages:. ADVERTISEMENT Dec 4, 2007 I have a 30-inch cinema display and a Power Mac G5 (quad).

Last night I was toying around by trying to boot an old 450 MHz G4 connected to my G5 via firewire ( I need to do some work on the G4 and it doesn't support my big display). So I connected it to my G5 via firewire target disk mode, then selected the disc (which has 10.2 on it) in the Startup disk preferences via System Prefs. Then I tried it and got a kernel panic. Alright, so it didn't work. But now that everything is disconnected and my G5 is back to it's normal state (meaning the G4 isn't connected at all), when I start up, my display acts very weird.

I get a few flashing colors blocks at the beginning, then it blacks out. Then when I login, it goes black again, then pops back on. So I'm trying to figure out what I did to my baby and how to fix it.

Information: Quad-core 2.5 G5 Mac OS X (10.5.1) 30' Apple Cinema Display Dec 10, 2010 We just get a new mac air. We were trying netflix video, and the browser did not response.

Now It get a black screen and can't start. I tried to press power button, etc, but nothing works. We are rather new to Mac world. What are the things I could try? BTW, the Mac air comes with a power supply only.

There is no DVD drive or thing like that. How do I re-install OS if I need to? May 13, 2008 After searching the mac forums for a while, it seems like no one else has experienced this problem.

All similar problems with black screens occurred during Windows installation, not once it had been installed. Here's my problem: I installed boot camp just fine, no problems.

Hold option key on startup, and I get 2 options: Macintosh HD and Windows. When I selected Windows for the first few days, it would load up, no problem, and I would be able to run Windows XP. However, all of a sudden (i.e. Didn't download or install anything on either partition that would mess things up) when I select the Windows partition at start up, it goes to a black screen (I don't even see the windows startup logo), and stays like that until I hit the power button on my mac pro tower. I'm not sure if it matters, but during this black screen process, my keyboard is non responsive. Sep 24, 2009 I turn on my powerbook G4 and the gray screen with the apple appears, seconds later, the screen turns black with a gray degradation line in the middle of the screen.

Everything else is black. Jun 8, 2012 I attemped to download windows 7 into my macbook pro last night, didn't end up finishing the download due to a few problems.

Now when I try to start up my computer it goes to the white screen first, than to a black screen where a little ' 'flashes. How to get it to boot up in Mac OS? I'm using the newest installation of lion.

Info: MacBook Pro Oct 6, 2010 I have a MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running Tiger 10.4.11. It has an issue where it takes a LOT of tries (10 - 20 tries) to get it to start up. When I hit the power button, it will turn on, the hard drive spins, the fans go, the usb ports work (I had a laptop cooler hooked up to it that would spin when I turned the computer power on), BUT the screen stays black, no chime. If I keep trying, by holding the power button down for 10 seconds and then hitting it again, it will usually start up on the 10th or 15th or so try.

I've tried varying amounts of time between tries, five minutes, ten minutes, overnight, etc. I haven't done any recent software or hardware updates. Once the computer starts up, it works just fine, aside from running quite hot (typically 60+ sometimes up to 80+C when I'm running photoshop or illustrator).

Jan 2, 2010 On my Mac Pro i have windows XP on hard drive number 2. I went to boot to it today after installing a program and nothing happens. The monitors are receiving information but there just a black screen. Not sure what i should do considering that i can still access the drive and files from the MAC Side. I can also get to the boot screen to select safe mode but that also does nothing.

It is a early 09 Mac Pro.i have been using the computer this way since last April. Cant figure out what happened. Apr 16, 2012 I am having a problem with my 2009 Mac Pro. It fails to boot. There is no chime and the screen wont turn on;stays black. It wont boot off of the system dvd and I even tried installing an HD that has a good version of the the OS on it.

I also tried booting from the DVD with no installed drives to rule out one of the internal drives doing someothing funky. Nothing happens at all, the HD or DVD will spin for a moment and then all is dead. Apr 30, 2012 My macbook pro is only a month old, and I've done nothing to it besides write documents and use facebook. Every time I close the lid so the computer can 'sleep' it does, but when I open the lid back up, it refuses to wake up.

My friend has the same computer and automatically her screen lights up when she opens the lid from sleep. My screen will stay black up to 10 minutes sometimes. Why is this happening? Should I bring it in to Apple? Also, when I shut my computer down, starting it up is another hassel in itself.

The screen goes white like it's suppose to, but only for a split second. The apple in the center never shows up, and the screen just goes black. It's very aggravating and I feel like I'm the one with the only messed up mac. Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.3) May 3, 2012 When I press the start button the screen goes on and I hear the chime but after 2 to 3 seconds the screen goes completely black.

The fan in working the red light under the mouse is on. Led # 1,2,3 are all on. I can't find my original system disk, so I inserted an original system disk from my macbook and tried pressing 'C' at start up. But what ever I do the screen goes on for 2 or 3 second and after that goes black and stays black. Jun 2, 2014 I get a black screen with a cursor when i start up.

I have tried the cmb pr fix and that gets me here, but des not solve it and the first letter of my login, enter followed by my password and enter does not work either. Info: MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) Nov 23, 2009 Does not boot, I hear chimes, fan spins black screen. Tried to reboot with OSX disc holding c. I'm lucky I got my disk out? Feb 2, 2009 I have an older MacBook and when I bought it, from a friend, it already had windows running on it. Just the other day I went to restart my computer and all I got want the black screen saying that the computer was turned off wrong and to choose the start up mode.

I tried the last known option and nothing happened besides restarting to the same screen. Then I tried the normal mode and that didn't work and safe mode did the same thing, starting back up to the black screen. Is there something that I can do/fix, or does this require some professional. Apr 20, 2010 I have a MacBook Pro from December 2007. Currently, when I push the power button to start it up, it makes the initial sound (although sometimes this initial sound is abbreviated, like it's cut off mid sound) but it never sounds the follow-up majestic-type chime.

Also, the screen remains black, and the keyboard is unresponsive (The Caps doesn't light up, for instance). The light on the front comes on faintly, but does not blink as in sleep mode. And the fan comes on as well, again faintly, not as in overdrive. And I'm assuming this next part is coincidental but I'll relay it anyway: The first hiccup with this was yesterday when, in sleep mode, I pushed the front release button to open the MCP and then immediately afterward accidentally closed it again. Upon opening it for the second time the screen remained black.

I manually shut it down holding the power button. After two or three times of turning it on and off manually, the majestic chime thing finally sounded and it booted properly. It worked fine then throughout the rest of the day when I would come back to it until last night when it failed again. Jun 2, 2010 I'm doing my best not to panic here but I'm sure you can feel my pain. I got up this morning, made my coffee and opened up my MBP to start my day.

I can hear that start up sound but the screen is completely black. It was fine yesterday and I didn't do anything different when I closed it to put it in sleep mode. But now it won't wake up. I pulled the battery, let it cool (seemed a little warm since I just started it).still black screen.

Can anyone provide any advice on how to fix? Jun 15, 2010 I have this powerbook from 2005 and no problems up to now.ohhh no! A couple of days ago started to occasionally make a clank clank noise and getting stacked on the spinning colour circle, only manual restart would do it.
