You'll need to contact Microsoft Customer Support by phone & explain the situation in order to install on a different Mac: In a nutshell, the problem you're having is that the Office 2011 software is associated with the device i.e., HD on which it is first installed & activated. What you're citing is accurate, provided you're reinstalling on the same device. In this case, though, that isn't what you're attempting to do, so the new device is not being recognized as being previously licensed. In order to install on a different device the software must first be properly removed from the original device in order to deactivate it.

It can then be installed on a different device using the same Product Key. 'Wiping' the original HD does not deactivate the software, so - technically - it's still activated on that device.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but all of this is explained in more detail in the Office 2011 End User License Agreement (EULA).
